Let’s Build: Creating an Effects Pedalboard for Marc Mellits’ Dark Matter

Aimed towards performers with all levels of experience with live effects, this workshop breaks down the effects used in Marc Mellits’ powerful work for electroacoustic bass clarinet, Dark Matter, and guides players through building an effects pedalboard from scratch. By covering each step of the build process, from the power supply and cabling to the order of effects in the signal chain, this session aims to empower players with the tools and knowledge to assemble their own setup that effectively achieves Mellits’ intended sound. This concludes with a performance of the work to
demonstrate the pedalboard’s resulting sound capabilities.
