ClarinetFest® Day 4
Award Ceremony
by Erin Cameron
The ICA Awards Ceremony was held Saturday, 7/2/22 at 6:30pm.
The ICA Awards Ceremony was an intimate opportunity to recognize the many individuals who have contributed to this year’s ClarinetFest and the larger clarinet community. The ceremony began with a moment of silence recognizing the lives lost this past year, including Gary Gray, Russell Dagon, and Béla Kovács. The ceremony continued with acknowledgement of the 2022 ICA sponsors, followed by recognition of the winners of this year’s competitions. The coordinators of this year’s competitions were Diane Barger (Young Artist Competition), Kimberly Cole Luevano (High School Competition), Vanguel Tangarov (Orchestral Audition Competition), and Jane Ellsworth (Research Competition). Special thanks were extended to the Artistic Leadership Team: Christy Banks, Joshua Anderson, Soo Goh, and Jessica Lindsey. This year’s ICA Legends inductees were Jack Brymer, Mitchell Lurie, and Eric Dolphy. In a touching moment, Jenni Brandon announced the composition of a new work for E-flat clarinet, B-flat clarinet and piano dedicated to outgoing president Denise Gainey and incoming president Diane Barger. The ceremony concluded with an announcement of next year’s ClarinetFest: July 5-9 in Denver, Colorado.
