Report by Sarah Korneisel The final round of the 2016 ICA High School Competition was held on Thursday, August 4 at 2:00 p.m. Thirty young clarinetists from across the globe submitted digital auditions for the preliminary round. From these, judges Angela Soren (Louisville, Kentucky), Alucia Scalzo (New York City) and Michael Rowlett (University of Mississippi) selected six finalists. Report by Melissa Morales The first evening concert, sponsored by Backun Musical Services, took place Wednesday, August 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lied Center of Kansas. ClarinetFest® is upon us once again, hosted by the historic University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. The University of Kansas was established in 1891 as one of the first national institutions to offer professional degrees in the arts, making it an appropriate site for this year's “Inspirations” ClarinetFest® 2016 theme. This year the fest is focusing on five great clarinetists who inspired the creation of our greatest repertoire. These clarinetists are 18th-century Anton Stadler; 19th-century Heinrich Baermann, Johann Hermstedt and Richard Mūhlfeld; and 20th-century Benny Goodman.
