NOTICE OF VACANCY
Position: Assistant Professor- Clarinet
Responsibilities: Teach applied clarinet, literature, and pedagogy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Recruit and maintain a studio of highly skilled undergraduate and graduate music majors in clarinet performance and music education and assist with recruitment in the woodwind area. Develop strong relationships with school music programs, local youth ensembles, and private instructors. Take an active role in building and maintaining high level clarinet sections in the University Orchestras and Bands. Perform in the resident faculty wind quintet and maintain an active schedule as a clarinet performer. Coach and develop chamber ensembles. Other teaching duties as assigned
Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor. This is a full-time probationary position leading to a tenure decision. Salary: $50,000
Appointment Begins: August 12, 2019
Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in music is required with all degree requirements completed by August 2019. Two years collegiate clarinet teaching experience at graduate assistant level or above.
Preferred Qualifications: (1) Demonstrated excellence as a clarinet performer. (2) Demonstrated excellence as a clarinet instructor. (3) Understanding of appropriate sequential instruction for music majors. (4) Demonstrated ability to recruit undergraduate and graduate clarinet music majors. (5) Clarinet teaching experience as a collegiate faculty member. (6) Two years as a member of a professional symphony orchestra, military service band, or professional chamber music ensemble. (7) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.

Semi-Finalists: Semi-finalists will be asked to submit a recent (within the last 2 years) 30 minute video of the candidate teaching a private clarinet lesson at the collegiate level.
Finalists: Finalists will be invited to the University of New Mexico to present a recital, teach one or more clarinet lessons, and interview with the search committee, department chair, and college dean.

Degrees offered include: the Bachelor of Music in performance, string pedagogy, theory and composition, and jazz studies; the Bachelor of Arts in Music; Bachelor of Music Education; and the Master of Arts in performance, woodwinds, string pedagogy, musicology, theory and composition, conducting, collaborative piano, and music education. There are sixty-one full-time and part-time music faculty members.
