ClarinetFest® 2018 Day 1: July 6, 2018
by Jessica Harrie
ClarinetFest® 2018 kicked off on July 6, 2018 in beautiful Ostend, Belgium, with a wonderful concert featuring the Claribel Clarinet Choir. Conducted by Bart Picqueur, the group performed works in hommage to Guido Six. The program featured members of the ensemble as soloists in works by composers Guido knew and loved.
Following the Claribel concert, the Lumen Symphonicum was welcomed to the stage, led by conductor David De Geest. The group performed along with four incredible clarinetists, ICA Honorary Members Karl Leister, Antonio Saiote, Luis Rossi and Charles Neidich. Following the performance, President Caroline Hartig presented the ICA Honorary Membership to Neidich.
Jeremy Reynolds performed a recital following the Honorary Member concert featuring David Maslanka’s Eternal Garden: Four Songs.
The evening concert featured the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Academy Award winning composer Nicola Piovani. Piovani conducted his own compositions including selections from La Vita è Bella, Suite Taviani, Suite Fellini, and a world premiere of performance of his new clarinet concerto Cyber Knife, performed by ClarinetFest 2018 Artistic Director Eddy Vanoosthuyse.
