ICA New Music Weekend 2021: Latin Amerca Highlight: A conversation on clarinet solo works with Brazilian composer Eduardo Frigatti
Latin America Highlight: A conversation on clarinet solo works with Brazilian composer Eduardo Frigatti
Clarinetist Thiago Ancelmo and Composer Eduardo Frigatti
Works for unaccompanied instruments have become an integral part of the portfolio of modern-day composers. As such, the repertoire for clarinet solo is quite extensive, but the performance of this repertoire largely revolves around Europeans and American composers. Works by Latin American composers, specifically for unaccompanied clarinet, are placed on the periphery. The intention of this proposal is two-fold: firstly, to present a list of excellent works for unaccompanied clarinet by Latin American composers from the last 30 years and secondly, to collaborate with Brazilian composer Eduardo Frigatti in dissecting the composition and performance of his pieces Iguaçu (2016) and Moods-Borderline (2019). This conversation will provide a useful resource for the ICA community and encourage an expanded view of new music for clarinet solo.
