Tips for your ICA proposal
If you are submitting a performance proposal:
- Make sure your representative audio recordings are of the highest quality possible (recorded at an appropriate volume, no feedback in recording, etc.).
- If no recording of the piece(s) you are proposing are not available, be sure to submit a most recent recording of your playing.
- Identify how your proposed repertoire identifies with the conference theme.
- Ensure that your proposed repertoire aligns with the time allowed for performances (25-minute maximum, including going on and off the stage)
- Do you have any equipment needs for your performance (percussion instruments, AV or electronic needs, etc.). Be sure to thoroughly describe this in your proposal.
- Please note that no collaborative musicians other than a conference pianist may be requested.
If you are submitting a lecture proposal:
- Clearly define your intended audience: is your topic geared toward the beginner, intermediate, or advanced clarinetist, for example? A well thought out presentation should include a clear definition of the audience intended.
- Will your lecture encourage audience participation? If so, how?
- Describe the content of your proposed session and what the audience can learn from attending it.
- Do your best to ensure that your proposal aligns with the criteria outlined by the conference theme.
- Make sure that timing of your proposed lecture aligns with the time allowed for lectures (25 minutes).
- Clearly define your AV and electronic needs in your proposal.
Crafting your Abstract/Description:
- Opening statement: “This is what I am going to do.” Narrative: “This is how I’m going to do it and how it aligns with the conference theme.” Summary: “This is the impact of my presentation/performance.”
- Maintain the 150-word maximum word limit.
- Proofread your proposal for spelling, grammar, etc.
