The Sidney Forrest Clarinet Competition for High School Students commemorates the legacy of one of America’s most recognized clarinet virtuosos and teachers – Sidney Forrest. Mr. Forrest taught clarinet at The Catholic University for 50 years, The Peabody Conservatory for 40 years, and at the Interlochen Center for the Arts for 45 years. He studied with Simeon Bellison and Alexander Williams. His performing career began as clarinet soloist with the United States Marine Band, and later he was Principal Clarinetist with the National Symphony Orchestra along with his many concert and chamber music appearances. The second annual Sidney Forrest Clarinet Competition for high school students is presented by The Catholic University of America (CUA), Washington, D.C., Fall 2016.

Application Deadline: September 10, 2016 (Application, $25 fee, and Preliminary video recording due)
Eligibility: Clarinetists in high school or high school graduates who have not yet attended college
Preliminary Recording: Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto, No. 1, 1st movement passages
Finals Round: Henri Rabaud’s Solo de Concours performed in its entirety
Finals Round Date: Saturday, November 5, 2016 at The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
