Julianne Kirk Doyle

Dr. Julianne Doyle joined the faculty of SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music in 2006 and serves as Professor of Clarinet and Woodwind Area Coordinator. She previously served as the Crane Auditions/Admissions Coordinator (2024-2026), Director of Crane Youth Music (2009-2023) and was honored with the SUNY Potsdam 2025 President’s Award for Excellence. Dr. Doyle performs regularly with the Aria Reed Trio and is Principal Clarinet of the Orchestra of Northern New York and Northern Symphonic Winds.

As an active soloist, chamber musician and clinician, Dr. Doyle has performed and presented at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest and Clareidoscope, International Double Reed Society, New York State School Music Association, New York State Band Directors Association, Mid-America Center for Contemporary Music, and the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium. She has given master classes for the University of Michigan, Juilliard Summerwinds, Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, Aria Summer Music Academy, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, University of North Carolina-Greensboro, Louisiana State University, Bowling Green State University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Actively involved in the ICA, Dr. Doyle serves as Secretary of the Board (2026-2028), as New York State chair, and is Clareidoscope Program committee chair. In 2025, Dr. Doyle was selected as a ClarinetFest 2025 Headlining Artist. From 2022-2024, she served as ICA Pedagogy Coordinator, on the College and Pre-Professional Engagement committee and has adjudicated the ICA Young Artists and Research Competitions. Dr. Doyle’s articles on pedagogy and the soft palate air leak have assisted wind players internationally. Dr. Doyle serves on the Orchestra of Northern New York Board of Directors, as the Orchestra Musician Player’s Liason, and outside of music, is co-leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop mentoring young girls ages 11-16, and is regularly recognized by the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways Council for her excellence in leadership, most recently earning the 2026 Evergreen Award.

Doyle earned the DMA, MM and Arts Leadership Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in the studio of Jon Manasse and a BM from the University of Oklahoma in the studio of David Etheridge. She is an artist with Backun Musical Services and DANSR/Vandoren.
