Collaborative Partnership: The Birth of a New Piece

This lecture intends to present some of the initial steps necessary to build a collaborative partnership between composer and performer. The presenters, clarinetist Thiago Ancelmo and composer Luke Carlson, will discuss their collaboration for a new piece for Clarinet and Electronics to be premiered in January 2024. The lecture will focus on the following steps: Initiating a collaboration, navigating the creative process, funding the project, and performing it. Based on their collaborative experience, the presenters intend to offer to the clarinet community a different perspective on how to approach a collaborative partnership, and hope it serves as a starting point for future collaborators.
