About the presenters:
Korean-born clarinetist Wonkak Kim has captivated audiences around the world with his “excellent breath control” (The Washington Post) and “exuberant musicianship” (Fanfare). Kim appeared as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. A Naxos Recording Artist, he has garnered international acclaim through his extensive discography. Kim is Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the University of Oregon and a performing artist/clinician for Buffet Crampon, Silverstein, and Vandoren. He is regularly invited as a guest artist and teacher at renowned institutions, including the Juilliard, Yale, and Manhattan School of Music.
Todd Waldecker has served since 1998 as Professor in the School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University where he teaches applied clarinet, clarinet pedagogy and chamber music. He received the MTSU Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award in 2006. He holds degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, Yale University, and the University of Missouri. He has served on the faculty of the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Purdue University, and in residency as a guest instructor at Indiana University in 2011. He is a frequent performer with the Grammy Award-Winning Nashville Symphony Orchestra and has toured and recorded with the ensemble for the Decca and NAXOS labels, and in broadcasts on National Public Television.
Clarinettist Cathy Wood has established herself internationally as a performer, educator, and advocate of Canadian music. She has been featured as a guest artist at many festivals including the ICA ClarinetFests. An enthusiast of new music, Wood has commissioned and premiered numerous works at festivals that celebrate new music, including the Winnipeg New Music Festival and Iceland’s Dark Music Days. A proponent of the piccolo clarinets, Catherine has commissioned works for both E-Flat and D clarinets. Wood teaches at Brandon University and serves as Chair of North America for the International Clarinet Association. She is a Buffet Crampon performing artist.
