ClarinetFest® 2021 Virtual: Electrifying the Clarinet: Beginning to Work with Electroacoustic Music
“Electrifying the Clarinet: Beginning to Work with Electroacoustic Music”
with Dr. Ian McIntyre
This presentation will be a lecture-recital on the pedagogy of electroacoustic clarinet music using live computer processing. During the lecture-recital, basic tools such as digital audio workstations, microphones, and specific audio effects will be discussed, in addition to methods and suggestions for practicing electroacoustic music. The primary focus of this lecture-recital will be for a college-aged student approaching an electroacoustic piece for the first time. After demonstrating the tools and practice techniques, there will be a short performance of one of the etudes from a series Dr. McIntyre has composed entitled “Electric Etudes.” These etudes are short technical studies on common electroacoustic styles to introduce students to key techniques before learning an entire electroacoustic performance piece. While there are several styles of electroacoustic music, this lecture-recital will primarily focus on live computer processing.
