ClarinetFest® 2021 Virtual: Panel 2: Ways to Support Mental Health Balance and Stay Motivated
Panel 2: Ways to Support Mental Health Balance and Stay Motivated
Organized by Kathryne Pirtle, with members of the ICA Health and Wellness Committee
Discussion:
- Ways to stay positive and motivated during difficult times: what techniques did you employ during the pandemic to keep yourself positive, practicing, and enjoying music and teaching? Were there things you did that you thought would work but didn’t and then other things that you were skeptical of but they ended up being helpful? What things did you begin during the pandemic that you’ve decided to continue on with as the world begins to normalize?
- What self-care routines/actions do you apply to encourage mental wellness and how do you incorporate them into daily living and music activities? What do you recommend to your students and were you able to do any of these during the pandemic?
- How mindfulness, breathing, and centering affect everything in our lives, including the effectiveness of our practicing and teaching and ways that we can use them with our students.
- We all were forced to be more creative in 2020 and somewhat so going forward in 2021. If you practiced meditation, mindfulness, breathing, etc. did you notice a quieting of your mind? Do you feel that it contributed to your creativity?
- We have two fitness professionals on the panel today: let’s hear now about how movement of the body influences your moods, your sleep patterns, and can help release negative energy and anxiety.
