E-flat clarinet reed advice from Diane Barger:
E-flat reeds: I used to exclusively use the B-flat Vandoren White Master reeds (and then just cut the bottom to fit the mouthpiece) and also cut the vamp a bit so it looked more like the V12 reed. Once Vandoren came out with their V12 E-flat reeds, I switched to those. There are other manufacturers who have come out with great E-flat reeds within the last few years. Some people also use the “cut out” barrel, which allows people to use regular B-flat reeds on the E-flat mouthpiece. For me, I do not use that, as my B-flat reeds are wider than my E-flat mouthpiece, so that did not work for me. But, plenty of people use the wonderful Legere E-flat reeds, etc. that are wider than the table of the E-flat mouthpiece, so it’s up to the player to make those decisions, I believe.
