LowFest 2027 – Call for Proposals

Call for Proposals: LowFest 2027

Calling all alto, basset horn, bass, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinetists to Québec City, Canada, for the 3rd biennial International Clarinet Association LowFest, October 24-27, 2027 at Université Laval. Mélanie Bourassa will serve as Artistic Director and her Artistic Leadership Team includes the following members of the Canadian Bass Clarinet Association: Christine Carter, Marie-Julie Chagnon, André Moisan, Marie Picard, and Eileen Walsh.

Although the previous LowFests were held in January, the next event will take place October 24-27, 2027, at Université Laval. October is an ideal time to visit Québec City—not only is this the prime time to experience the beautiful fall colours in this historic city, but the weather in Canada will be more hospitable in October than in January.

This four-day event will feature:

  • Solo, chamber, and non-traditional performances featuring low clarinets (alto clarinet, basset horn, bass clarinet, contra-alto, and contrabass clarinets)
  • Masterclasses
  • Jam Sessions open to all
  • Presentations/Clinics
  • Young Artist and High School Competitions
  • Composition Competition
  • Low Clarinet Choir
  • Exhibits with sheet music, instruments, mouthpieces, reeds, ligatures, cases, repair stations, and everything low clarinet!

International Clarinet Association members are invited to submit proposals for live seminars and performances under 25 minutes. Proposals featuring underrepresented composers are encouraged. Special consideration will be given to proposals from current students, and performance/presentation slots will be held during the festival to feature these student performers/presenters.

Performance proposals will require links of the applicant(s) performing either the proposed works or samples of recent performances (in the case of a world premiere) to be considered. All proposals are due by December 31, 2026. Accepted performers will be notified by February 1, 2027.
