The Creole Encounters guitar/clarinet duo explores and showcases 19th and 20th century repertoire from the Latin-American diaspora. The duo enjoys adapting and arranging traditional Latin-American works for performance on modern classical guitar and clarinet/bass clarinet, as well as premiering new compositions based on Latin-American styles. The duo brings to the concert stage a variety of pieces customarily performed by ensembles in ‘participatory’ community settings. Concerts are convivial and inclusive occasions accompanied by informative narration.

Vladimir Gorbach, described as “a gift to the world of music,” is recognised as one of the leading classical guitarists of his generation. He first gained international attention after winning the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition, widely regarded as the Academy Award of the classical guitar world — a distinction that propelled him onto the world stage and established him as a major international voice.
Since then, Gorbach has built a wide-ranging global career, performing extensively across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. He has appeared in recital at major venues including Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, and the Herbst Theater in San Francisco, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras on three continents. Equally compelling as a chamber musician, he is sought after for collaborations with leading instrumentalists and ensembles.
Gorbach is Associate Professor of Guitar at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney.
