ClarinetFest® 2022 Pedagogical Pathways – Suzanne Tirk Presentation: “Right Hand Pain: How Changes to Thumb Position Can Prevent and Heal Overuse Injury”
PEDAGOGICAL PATHWAYS PROGRAMMING
RIGHT HAND PAIN: HOW CHANGES TO THUMB POSITION CAN PREVENT
AND HEAL OVERUSE INJURY
Presenter: Dr. Suzanne Tirk
This workshop is designed for clarinetists that have experienced right hand pain/overuse injuries and for those clarinetists that are seeking ways to relax the hand, thus preventing injury. We will examine how repositioning the angle of the right-hand thumb makes a significant impact on the relaxation and function of the right hand. Having suffered from a right-hand overuse injury herself, presenter Suzanne Tirk has used this technique to help students suffering from right-hand overuse injury, as well as heal her own injury.
Suzanne Tirk’s appearance is sponsored by Buffet Crampon and the University of Oklahoma
Dr. Suzanne Tirk is Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of Oklahoma.
