<p><strong>APPOINTMENT:</strong><span> </span>August 21, 2025</p>
<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES:<span> </span></strong>Teach Applied Lessons to music majors and minors, music courses for music majors, and music courses in the general education curriculum. Perform as a member of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet, faculty ensemble in residence. Coach wind chamber ensembles. Other duties or teaching assignments as appropriate to qualifications and experience.</p>
<p><strong>RANK &amp; SALARY:</strong> Instructor, 9-month appointment. $5,000 per month / $45,000 per year.</p>

<p><strong>THE DEPARTMENT:</strong><span> </span>The School of Music, accredited by NASM, offers professional undergraduate degrees in Performance, Jazz Studies, Composition, Music Business, Music Education and Music Therapy; and Master of Music degrees in Performance, Composition, Piano Pedagogy, Music Education, Conducting, Musicology, and Jazz Studies.  The faculty of 32 full-time members serves approximately 180 undergraduate and graduate majors.</p>

<p>tonebase is thrilled to announce the expansion of our offerings with the launch of tonebase Clarinet. Join our dynamic team as the Clarinet Consultant and play a pivotal role in crafting a world-class educational experience for clarinetists around the globe.</p>
<p>As our Clarinet Consultant, you'll help inform and shape the content strategy as well as artist recruitment for tonebase Clarinet. Your expertise will guide the creation of a curriculum that not only educates but inspires. Prior to the launch, you will collaborate with our content team to ensure our platform offers the highest possible value to our users. After the launch you’ll be leading the Live and Community aspects of the platform.</p>
<p>As the Clarinet Consultant at tonebase, you'll begin by reporting (in a part-time capacity) to and working closely with the content team, but the role is designed with growth in mind. As the company expands, so do the opportunities for you to step into leadership positions, including potentially leading the Clarinet platform among others. This position offers a pathway for professional development within a company at the forefront of online music education.</p>
<h3><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with the content team to devise an artist and content strategy, building a comprehensive and relevant curriculum for our users.</li>
<li>Work alongside the post-production team to refine and finalize courses, ensuring the highest quality educational content.</li>
<li>Post-launch, take the lead on the Live and Community aspects of the platform, fostering a vibrant community through weekly livestream, challenges, and forum discussions.</li>
<li>Monitor platform engagement to continuously improve and tailor the user experience, aligning with the needs and desires of our audience.</li>
<li>Host and teach within our livestreams and Two-Week Intensives, inviting renowned artists for guest classes.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Pre-Launch: (First ~4 Months)</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Content planning and artist recruitment</li>
<li>Assist post-production with course reviews</li>
<li>Engage in occasional travel opportunities to attend productions.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Post-Launch:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead the charge in livestream programming by recruiting artists as well as teaching classes live on the platform.</li>
<li>Create engaging discussions and community challenges to foster a strong and supportive community</li>
<li>Continue to assist in post-production and continued content strategy</li>
</ul>
<h3><strong>Who We're Looking For:</strong></h3>
<ul>
<li>A Master’s degree or higher in Clarinet Performance or Pedagogy.</li>
<li>An extensive network within the clarinet community.</li>
<li>Over a decade of experience in both performing and teaching the clarinet, with the ability to simply and succinctly teach clarinet fundamentals.</li>
<li>Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.</li>
<li>Experience in community management, online event hosting, and online teaching.</li>
<li>Familiarity with social media marketing and a deep understanding of the clarinet community.</li>
<li>Proficiency in project management tools (Notion, Gmail, Google Sheets/Excel, Slack) and streaming technology (OBS and Zoom).</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Work Environment:</strong></p>
<p>This position is fully remote. We communicate and collaborate through Slack, ensuring a flexible and dynamic work environment.</p>
<p><strong>Compensation:</strong></p>
<p>Starting at $3,000 per month for approximately 20 hours per week, with potential for growth as the platform and your role expand.</p>

<p><strong style="font-weight: 700 !important">Description</strong><strong style="font-weight: 700 !important">:</strong><br />The ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre seeks an innovative artist-teacher of clarinet who will participate in our effort to reimagine what arts education means in the 21st century. This appointment will be full-time, tenure-track at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2024. This position will be located on the Tempe, Arizona campus.</p>
<p>The successful candidate for the position of Assistant Professor of Clarinet will demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and will be committed to contributing to the team teaching environment in the clarinet studio and educating outstanding performing musicians, teachers, music therapists and scholars. Additional teaching duties will include clarinet-related courses such as repertoire, pedagogy, and chamber music ensembles. The candidate will pursue a continued career of research and creative activity and contribute to the musical life of the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. <li>Doctorate or Masters plus five years of professional experience performing in significant venues at the regional and/or national level.  </li>
<li>Demonstrated excellence in teaching applied clarinet at the collegiate level.</li>
<li>Record of national creative activity and scholarship.</li>
<li>Success recruiting and attracting students and developing a clarinet studio program.</li>

<p><strong style="font-weight: 700 !important">Desired Qualifications:</strong></p>

<li>International recognition in creative activity and scholarship.</li>
<li>Experience teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level university students.</li>
<li>Demonstrated expertise teaching and/or developing courses in clarinet pedagogy and clarinet repertoire.</li>
<li>Experience coaching woodwind chamber music and/or directing clarinet choir.</li>
<li>History of successful applications for research funding.</li>
<li>The ability to work and collaborate across artistic disciplines, with people outside the arts, across campus, and in the community, including interdisciplinary creative activity within and outside of the arts. </li>
<li>Demonstrated efficacy in developing/delivering innovative courses, including online and/or hybrid formats, or developing websites and/or online course resources.</li>

This position is a fixed-term, nine-month, three-<br />year appointment with possibility of renewal. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will<br />begin the appointment on August 16, 2024.</p>
<p><br /><strong>Duties</strong><br />Teach applied clarinet and maintain a thriving clarinet studio. Build relationships with clarinet<br />teachers in the region. Teach music history courses or other classes as assigned. Lead the woodwind<br />chamber music program and perform with the Solstice Wind Quintet. Participate in undergraduate<br />and graduate recruiting and mentoring as well as program-building initiatives. Supervise graduate<br />students, maintain scholarship, research, and/or creative activity, and provide service to the unit,<br />college, university, and profession. The workload of this position is 80% teaching, 10% creative<br />activity, 10% service.</p>
<p><br /><strong>Required Qualifications</strong><br /> Earned doctorate in music must be conferred by start of appointment.<br /> Proven excellence in clarinet performance and effective teaching.<br /> Relevant experience or qualification to teach music history or other classes as assigned.<br /> Proven or demonstrated potential for successful program building, studio recruitment, and<br />retention.<br /> Proven excellence in chamber music performance and demonstrated skills in coordinating and<br />coaching.<br /> Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of<br />disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.<br /> Demonstrated commitment to campus inclusion, diversity, equity, and access efforts.<br />Preferred Qualifications<br /> Demonstrated success in studio recruitment and retention.<br /> Demonstrated high level of organizational skills and interpersonal communication.<br /> Proven knowledge of woodwind repertoire and pedagogy literature.</p>

<p><strong>Position</strong><br />The School of Music invites applications for a tenure track position as Artist/Teacher of Clarinet at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2024. Primary responsibilities include teaching applied clarinet to both undergraduate and graduate students, recruiting and maintaining a quality clarinet studio, and serving as coordinator of the woodwind area (including organizing events and assisting with outreach and recruitment for all woodwind instruments). Other responsibilities include coaching chamber music, participating in faculty ensembles, and teaching other courses in accordance with individual areas of expertise and School of Music needs. The position also requires working closely with other applied faculty, ensemble directors, and music education faculty to promote positive relationships with regional high school and community college music programs.</p>

<li>Terminal degree (DMA, PhD, or MM with commensurate experience) by the time of appointment.</li>
<li>Evidence of successful college-level clarinet teaching.</li>

<li>Demonstrated excellence in musicianship and performance skills befitting a professional clarinet performer.</li>
<li>Evidence of a distinguished record of achievement and national or international reputation as a clarinet soloist, and/or orchestral musician, and/or chamber musician.</li>

<li>Demonstrated ability to work and interact effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, faculty, and staff.</li>
<li>A strong record of creative activity and/or scholarly accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment.</li>

<p><strong>Compensation</strong><br />The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,405 to $11,994 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring salary is $6,688 per month.</p>
