Housing Options for ClarinetFest® 2016
The Oread Hotel, located adjacent to the KU campus, will serve as the signature property for conference housing. Overflow bookings will be at the Oread’s sister property, the historic Eldridge Hotel, located downtown on legendary Massachusetts Street – about 5 minutes drive from campus. Discounted price for both locations – $139 per night (excluding taxes).
Other hotels near campus holding room blocks at discounted prices for those attending ClarinetFest® include Marriott Springhill Suites ($107 per night, excluding taxes) and Best Western Lawrence (< $100 per night, excluding taxes). Reservations can be made as follows (reference ClarinetFest or ICA):
· Oread Hotel/Eldridge Hotel – call hotel direct 1-785-843-1200 (toll free 1-877-263-6347)
· Marriott Springhill Suites – call hotel direct 1-785-841-2700 (toll free 1-888-236-2427, use reference code ICAICAK for King Suite or ICAICAQ for Double Queen Suite)
· Best Western Lawrence – call hotel direct 1-785-843-9100
A low cost dormitory option in Naismith Hall (with or without a meal plan) is available through the ClarinetFest® 2016 registration page on the ICA website (clarinet.org). The rate per night is $20 per person for double occupancy; single occupancy is no longer available (meal plan is $25 per day). A 3-night minimum stay is required. Meal plans are only available for the entire length of stay.
NOTE: Lawrence City bus service is accessible to Murphy Hall from the Oread, Eldridge, and Springhill Suites 6:30am-7:30pm Monday – Saturday (no Sunday Service). There is no daytime bus/shuttle service for Best Western Lawrence. A shuttle for evening concerts at the Lied Center of Kansas will be provided to/from the three conference hotels.
Getting to Lawrence from Kansas City International Airport
There are a number of shuttle services that provide transportation to/from Lawrence and the Kansas City International Airport (MCI). The most frequently used service to the KU campus is Super Shuttle (www.supershuttle.com). Additional options can be found at this website: http://www.flykci.com/getting-to-from/ground-transportation/shuttle-services/
Recommendation – Because most shuttle services to/from the KC airport are priced at or above $100 round-trip, and car rental at the KC airport is typically quite reasonable, your ClarinetFest® hosts urge those attending the conference to rent a car and drive to Lawrence (just under an hour’s drive). Although the overall cost might be slightly higher, you will spend less time waiting on City buses or evening shuttles, and you will have much more flexibility in exploring the many FABULOUS restaurants and after-hour establishments that have made Lawrence a legendary destination. Convenient, low-cost parking in front of both Murphy Hall and the Lied Center of Kansas will allow you to maximize your time and experiences at ClarinetFest® 2016.
